Starting (yet) again

It’s been nearly a year since I’ve done anything on this site. Last spring I took an online class for magazine freelance writing which gave me some motivation to take up writing again. But the class was barely finished when we left for a three week excursion to Europe which would seem to offer the perfect topics-Wales, England, Italy. But did I write one single sentence? No. I did not.

I’ve learned that some of the issues which stymie me include fear-no surprise there-and perfection. My fear is not so much about rejection, but the amount of time, energy and work that may be involved if I pursue this thing. The perfection piece is also a part of the time piece, as I find it very difficult to just write, then edit later. I constantly go back and change sentences or search for the right word. It takes me forever. But my husband and I are balancing on the precipice of a life change-a new chapter which will affect us financially and the time has come for me to really get serious and get to work trying to sell something.

“Write daily” is the mantra I hear from professionals and novices alike. Have something to show for your work. So again, I will use a blog as a tool in order to get into the habit of writing on a daily basis. The last three years have been a drama of fits and starts, none ever amounting to anything.

For today, this is my entry. It’s all over the place and I will simply post it as a baseline to measure my progress.
