Commitment, Change and Groundhog Day

“Our very life depends on everything’s

Recurring till we answer from within.”   Robert Frost

(Handsome, devil, wasn’t he?)

I try to do at least one daily reading every morning, if not two. But often times, I’m running late, and I have to throw up a quick something to my Higher Power and hope He’s paying attention.

This quote was included in the July 30 reading of  “Courage to Change,” an Al-Anon publication. It was especially relevant for me right now, as I’ve answered the whisper from within and made a commitment to this blog, as well as another which I began last week. More on that at another time, but if you’re curious……

I think the quote exemplifies the definition of insanity-repeating the same thing over and over yet expecting different results.

And when I researched it, I came across a site, Serenity Online Therapy, in which the author suggested we are like Bill Murray in Groundhog Day, repeating the same mistakes over and over until finding our true selves. Further research led me to this thought provoking site,, which detailed the movie’s events, and explained the importance of change in our lives.

Like my post of July 29, (which, if you think you’re crazy because you’ve not seen it before–you are not… I just realized I hadn’t published it!)  “the moment one commits oneself, the Providence moves too.”  Change breeds change.  If I took a poll, I’d guess most people would admit they hate change. But I think most people are also like Bill Murray, living their days in a pattern of miserable sameness, too fearful to do anything about it.

That was me once. I’m working hard never to have it be me again.
